Fort Yargo State Park

77

210 S. Broad Street Winder, GA 30680
Located between Atlanta and Athens, this popular park features a 1792 log fort built by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Today, visitors come to Fort Yargo for its wide variety of outdoor recreation and scenery. Mountain bikers and hikers can test their endurance on 18 miles of trails. A 260-acre lake offers a large swimming beach, fishing and boat ramps. The park’s wooded disc golf course is exceptionally challenging.

Excellent park! Lots of options. My Son & I play the disc golf course often. A very nice 18 hole course with lots of challenges.

This is an awesome state park. It has something for the entire family. The mountain bike trails are some of the best maintained we have seen. Nice...

Walk-in tent camping has moved. Be prepared to use portable potties... I wasn't. The sites are beautiful.

Walk-in site #44 has its own water spicket. #43 has a nice view of the fishing pier.

Spend the night in a yurt! - GA

In addition to camping, cottages, lodges, and RV sites, Georgia's state parks now offer the unique experience of sleeping in a yurt. Enjoy the yurts at Red Top Mountain, High Falls and Fort Yargo State Parks. Yurts, which are canvas and wood lattice-framed tents, provide comfortable furniture and electricity inside and a deck, grill, fire pit and picnic table outside. No need to pitch a tent, just bring your sheets and pillows and get ready to sleep in the great outdoors.

Disc golf, anyone? - GA

Fun for all ages, this sport is similar to regular golf and involves throwing Frisbee-style discs into metal baskets. The object of this game is to play a course from beginning to end, in the fewest number of throws of the disc. Our courses are located at Cloudland Canyon State Park, Fort Yargo State Park, Georgia Veterans State Park, and Richard B. Russell State Park.

This was my first visit to Fort Yargo. The staff and campground host were very helpful. There were a lot of activities to fill the day. Biking, put-put-golf, frisbee golf and just sitting in the rocking chair on the back deck of the yurt enjoying the sunset. VERY PEACEFUL. THANKS!
