Fort Delaware State Park

45 Clinton St. Delaware City, DE 19706
This Union fortress, dating back to 1859, once housed Confederate prisoners of war. Visitors take a half-mile ferry ride from Delaware City to Pea Patch Island. Here, costumed reenactors take you back to the summer of 1864. Fill your day with hands-on history and see the 8-inch Columbiad gun fire a live gunpowder charge. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy - tables and grills are provided, or stop at the food concession. Don’t miss the popular Paranormal Tours each fall. Pea Patch Island also provides an outstanding habitat for one of the largest wading bird nesting areas on the East Coast.
