Know what works best for you. If you are really into the outdoors, but just don’t like sleeping on the ground, a cabin or yurt can be a good compromise. If you want a more luxurious feel after a day on the trails, snag a room at a lodge or hotel nearby. Research the specific parks you are considering. What one park might call a lodge may feel more like a yurt or tent to you, so call the park and ask about amenities and features before booking.
The North Georgia mountains never cease to amaze me. So many surprises lie tucked away in the high, green hills, from waterfalls to old-growth forests and remote swimming holes. But, one of my favorite things there is actually man-made. The Len Foote Hike Inn, an eco-friendly lodge, lies deep in the Chattahoochee National Forest, just north of Amicalola Falls State Park. Have you tried one of our yurts? In addition to the yurts at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Craig Lake and Pinckney, we’ve added a new one overlooking Green Lake in Waterloo Recreation Area. Do you want to camp on the beach? Negwegon State Park has four backpack hike-in campsites located on Lake Huron. You might want to canoe/kayak to the site that is two miles north on a point reaching out into Lake Huron. Both Interlochen and Port Crescent state parks have added pop-up campers which are available to rent through www.midnrreservations.com The latest lodge renovations were completed at Tahquamenon Falls and Traverse City. Lodges come with refrigerators, stoves and a large variety of other amenities.

Make sure you know the location of the lodge or cabins. Some can be on the opposite side of the park that you are planning to spend your days exploring. Find a place to stay that is both comfortable and convenient.
