Insider Tips

Many parks have played an important part in our history and offer great learning opportunities. Take a guided tour, whether with a ranger or an audio guide. Most rangers can give you insider knowledge about the park. Just walking through the historic parks will not give you the same experience as knowing what took place. And don’t forget to ask questions!

Civil War Reenactment Michigan

At Cambridge Junction State Historical Park's Civil War Weekend in May you may experience a living history reenactment of the Civil War.  You'll tour military encampments and civilian tent cities.  Hear the cannon roar and watch as Union and Confederate troops clash in battles each day.  To get the most from your visit, talk with soldiers and civilians as they work and play before and after the battle.  They will be glad to tell you about life in the Civil War era.

Do Your Part To Preserve

Be respectful of the history. Lots of areas are roped off to preserve the artifacts, so it’s best to respect the park’s instructions.

Information From Other Park Guests

Be social… Talk with other guests at the park. Many times, the people at historic parks may have some tidbits of their own that they can impart to you. While making a friend is great, making one that can give you a new perspective on the park is even better.
