Insider Tips

If you are going to be sticking to paved surfaces, go with a road bike. If you plan on going off-road for any distance, consider a mountain or hybrid bike. Bikes come in all shapes and sizes and are designed for specific purposes. Be sure to use the right bike for your situation.

The White Pine Trail
Michigan State Parks & Recreation Areas Michigan State Parks & Recreation Areas

The White Pine Trail is a 96-mile long trail that connects Cadillac to Grand Rapids.  This gem of a hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling path is a linear state park, with management along the trail provided by local communities, and assistance from the Friends of the White Pine Trail.

The trail provides visitors with scenic vistas and a wonderful, multi-day ride or walk.  Many residents who live along the trail use it as an after work fitness destination, a weekend getaway, or just an alternative path to get to a Whitecaps baseball game.  No matter why you visit the trail, you won't forget the fun you've had.

Biking Comfort and Safety

If you can, have your bike professionally fitted for maximum comfort while riding. Wear a helmet, comfortable wicking clothes, and padded shorts. Safety equipment is highly recommended for all riders, while cyclists under 16 are require to wear helmets. Glasses are a must, protecting your eyes from branches, debris and bugs, while also keeping them shaded from the sun. Don’t forget water, food, and a flat kit (spare tube, hand pump, and multitool) Pack more than you think you will need, just in case.
